Captains Day 2008 - 5th September at Royal Scarthingwell
Unfortunately for Chris the weather was the worst experienced for a Captain's Day ever; when the Secretary drove off at 0830 it was hammering down and got worse all morning before the end of the morning only the good will of the course management team allowed us to complete the 18 holes. The 9 hole afternoon competition was washed out. The main event was won by founder member, former long serving secretary and twice Captain Roderick Maitland Farquhar with 32 points on an horrendous day for all but him. Outrageously priced at 20-1 in the sweep he ensured that he had enough money to by the drinks all evening on his table of alco- totalers . Many congratulations to him.
The seasons prizes were won as shown below : PTS Cup (Lowest gross on a Society Day) Captain Adams , Captains Trophy (winner on Captains Day) Rod Farquhar, Don Marcus Shield (three best scores on society days) Captain Adams, Arabian Horse Trophy (Society pairs better ball) Captain Adams and Richard Rhodes, Double D Cup (Lowest Gross on Captain's Day) Tom Keeney, Barbara Whitehead Cup (Most improved player) Simon Fabry.
The Captain and John Wharton have still to play for the John Wharton Trophy (18 hole singles matchplay. Another good year for the Society who collected over £300 for the Martin House Hospice at the presentation Dinner and Dance. Thanks to all who participated.
